Supporters & Partners

VEREP’s work is made possible through the partnership and generosity of organizations committed to mission real estate development, affordable housing, and congregational vitality.

From funders who support feasibility studies to diocesan partners building property databases, each supporter helps congregations imagine new ways their land and buildings can serve God’s beloved community.

We are deeply grateful for these partners in ministry who make it possible to expand the reach and impact of this work across Virginia.

About VEREP

Virginia Episcopal Real Estate Partners (VEREP) is a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia that helps congregations reimagine underutilized church property, sanctuaries, rectories, halls, and land, for mission and community impact.

We served as a faith-based real estate partner, walking alongside clergy and lay leaders as they discern faithful next steps, blending spiritual vision with practical strategy for church property redevelopment.

Faithfully Repurposing Sacred Spaces

VEREP serves congregations facing the question: What is God calling us to do with this place?

We guide parishes through the process of discerning new uses for church-owned property. This can include:

  • Affordable housing on church land

  • Community gardens and green space

  • Childcare and early education centers

  • Shared nonprofit and community service spaces

  • Discernment around leasing, joint ventures, or even the sale of property.

Every project is rooted in prayer, community listening, and a commitment to sustainability.

About Virginia Episcopal Real Estate Partners_ image of group meeting

Our Mission

VEREP empowers congregations to discern, develop, and steward mission-driven uses of their real estate.

Through coaching, technical guidance, and access to funding, we help churches transform underused buildings and land into vibrant community hubs for: housing, healthcare, supportive services, childcare and education, food security and community programs and more.

Our Vision

We envision a Diocese where every parish boldly reimagines its property as a resource for God’s mission - serving neighbors, strengthening discipleship, and renewing communities across Virginia.

Why This Work Matters

Across the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia, many congregations are carrying the weight of aging buildings, shrinking budgets, and underused space.

VEREP empowers churches to use their real estate assets to their fullest potential in service of the Gospel and their communities.

We support congregations with:

  • Coaching and congregational discernment

  • Technical guidance on feasibility, zoning, and finance

  • Connections to funders, developers, and nonprofit partners

Together, we explore community-serving solutions so church property becomes a living expression of God's love in the neighborhood.

How We Work

Our process begins with prayerful listening.

We help congregations:

  • Explore options for missional use, lease or sale of property

  • Assess financial, structural, and legal feasibility

  • Connect with community partners and technical experts

  • Navigate diocesan and parish governance and decision-making

  • Move from discernment to action, at a pace that fits

From first conversations to final partnerships, we support each parish as it charts its own course in church property redevelopment and stewardship.
