Reimagining Houses of Worship: Rick Reinhard Recognized | VEREP
VEREP is pleased to celebrate Rick Reinhard, Principal of Niagara Consulting Group and an advisor to VEREP on Project Strategy and Congregational Redevelopment, for receiving the Jared Shlaes Prize from The Counselors of Real Estate.
Reinhard received the award for his 2025 Real Estate Issues® article, “Transforming Emptying Houses of Worship.” The article examines a challenge facing faith communities across the country: what happens to church properties as congregations change and buildings become increasingly underused?
Drawing on decades of experience in economic development, faith-based real estate strategy, and urban policy, Reinhard explores both the complexity of these decisions and the opportunities for houses of worship to find new purpose as community assets.
The topic closely connects with VEREP’s work helping Episcopal congregations in Virginia discern mission-driven, sustainable uses for their real estate.

Rick Reinhard is Principal of Niagara Consulting Group and an advisor to VEREP on Project Strategy and Congregational Redevelopment. He is a national thought leader in faith-based real estate, helping congregations navigate property reuse and redevelopment while balancing mission, community needs, and long-term sustainability.
