RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia Episcopal Real Estate Partners (VEREP) has hired Sarah F. Whiting as Executive Director, bringing to the organization more than 25 years of nonprofit leadership, fundraising, capital project management, and historic property redevelopment experience.
Whiting will lead VEREP’s work supporting Episcopal congregations across Virginia as they discern sustainable reuse and redevelopment opportunities for underutilized land and buildings. VEREP helps churches align property decisions with mission and community needs, including housing, education, childcare, food access, and other forms of neighborhood impact.
“Sarah brings the right combination of executive leadership, real estate and preservation experience, fundraising skill, and deep familiarity with Episcopal and nonprofit settings,” said the VEREP Board of Trustees Chair Nina Janopaul. “Her background will help VEREP expand its support for congregations seeking faithful, practical, and community-centered uses for their property.”
Whiting most recently served as Director of Operations at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Richmond. Her previous leadership roles include Director of Operations and Capital Projects at The Valentine Museum, Executive Director of St. John’s Church Foundation, and senior positions with Preservation Virginia and Historic Richmond Foundation.
Her experience includes managing multimillion-dollar capital and historic rehabilitation projects, overseeing nonprofit budgets and operations, working with boards and clergy, leading grant writing and donor engagement, and guiding community-focused preservation and redevelopment efforts.
“I am honored to join VEREP at a moment when congregations are asking important questions about how their buildings and land can serve both mission and community,” Whiting said. “I look forward to working with clergy, lay leaders, trustees, consultants, and partners across Virginia to help churches move from discernment to faithful action.”
